Three Businesses Students Can Start Today

I still remember the day when I was sat down with all my friends at university in my first term of first year and we talked about how much debt we were all in after depleting our student loans in the first few weeks of getting it. We have all been there and it is frustrating when you have to stay in because you have maxed out your overdraft and Mum and Dad have had enough of you asking for more money to just spend on booze (don’t deny it!). This was part of the reason why I decided to set up a business to give me some extra income for my university years, which yes I probably spent most of it on alcohol (guilty!!). However, the start up I launched was a lengthy process and it took a couple of months to get going and required a bit of investment from my side. So I thought I would give you guys some ideas of how you could set up a business pretty much overnight and make some money much quicker, without any investment at all! So the three businesses I would recommend are:
Blog. Some of the top bloggers earn hundreds of thousands of pounds to millions simply by writing about something they are passionate about. Another perk is they normally get free stuff depending on what they blog about. For example, if you blog about hotels, then you may end up getting invited to stay at top hotels in the country for free and then all you have to do is write about it. One idea is to set yourself a goal of something like live on £3 a day for a month or try and make £1000 form a £1 investment and write about it. You may get some exposure in the media and this will then drive traffic to the site and people will follow your journey. Blog’s may require a bit more time to make some money from but the more content you put on your blog the more followers you will get. Therefore, posting regularly is key - something I need to work on!
Freelance. All students are learning new skills at university (I hope!), so why not put that into practice and be a freelancer and get paid for it. For example if you are doing Law you could freelance yourself as checking or writing legal documents for start ups or individuals. If you are a bit of an excel guru you could make financial models for businesses. Websites such as Upwork and People Per Hour can help you reach out to potential clients, for free!
Tutor. All students specialise in a certain subject, sometimes two if they are lucky enough to be doing a joint honours. You can use your knowledge to your advantage by tutoring children around your university town. For example if you are studying a language you could tutor that language or if you fancy yourself as a bit of a maths expert you can offer this to children round the area. Some tutors can get paid as much as £30 per hour.
Are you up for the challenge? Go for it!!
