Profit isn’t everything?! You must be thinking I am mad? You can’t operate a business without profits can you?

Well, what I am implying is that running your business and making decisions solely on the effect they will have on your profit is a bad move. Suli Breaks once said “a business that makes just profit is a poor business”, and this is because your business should aim to make a difference in the communities you operate in rather than be all about money! For example look at Trello, the project management software which is free to users but has premium features that people need once they have established their business. However, you are able to use the free feature for as long as you like, which is something that has helped thousands if not millions of start up entrepreneurs across the globe. As you will know if you read one of my previous posts that it has just been sold to Atlassian for $425 million! Crazy money right?!
Personally I truly believe in the quote “chase your passion and the money will follow”. However, money isn’t the be all and end all in this world and seeing positive results from your work is truly rewarding. The results shouldn’t be all about the numbers it should be about the impact you have made on society or how many people have you helped. You may be thinking that I am talking about social enterprises here, but, surprisingly I am not. I believe that if more businesses, large and small make a difference in society with their products and services then the world could be a much better and happier place.
Do you think more corporates and private companies should focus more on the impact they make on our society than they do at the moment?
